About Renn Cheah

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

B.SC (HONS), MPSYCH (CLINICAL), GRADDIP (SEXOLOGY)

Hi there, I am a Clinical Psychologist, accredited EMDR therapist, and an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist. I have over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in both public and private sectors. In addition to private practice, I am also currently working within a specialised trauma unit where I see clients who had experienced recent/childhood sexual traumas. With a client-centered approach, I tailor interventions to meet my client’s unique needs. My focus extends beyond symptom management, addressing common maintaining factors across various disorders.

I am passionate about supporting my client’s life journey and I assist them through evidence-based approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Additionally, I am also fluent in multiple languages, including Malay, Cantonese, and Mandarin, allowing for therapy sessions to be conducted in these languages if required.

I believe that you are the master of you and I am happy to be the catalyst to the change that you are looking for.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies (almost every genre!), cooking, travelling, spending time with friends and family, hitting the gym, playing badminton, and playing the piano ("Golden Hour" is my favourite song to play on the piano at the moment!).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I require a referral?

A formal referral is not necessary in order to schedule an appointment with a psychologist. However, to access Medicare rebates of $137.05 per session, it is necessary to obtain a Better Access Mental Health Care Plan from a General Practitioner (GP), Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician.

You will initially be eligible for a rebate for up to six sessions. Following a re-referral by a GP, it is possible to receive a maximum of 10 rebated sessions within a calendar year.

How long will each session be?

Each standard session is approximately 50 minutes.

Will I be eligible for Heath Fund Rebates?

It is advised to directly contact your insurance provider as policies can vary. If your insurance does provide coverage, we will furnish you with a receipt that can be submitted to your insurer for rebate purposes.

Please be aware that it is not possible to claim both Medicare and Insurance rebates for the same session.

Cancellation Policy

A late cancellation fee will apply if you provide less than 24 hours' notice (or on Friday for a Monday appointment) for cancellation or rescheduling.

If you fail to attend your appointment without any notice, a missed appointment fee will be charged. We recommend arranging a phone or video session instead of canceling or rescheduling if you are unable to attend in person. It is important to note that non-attended sessions are not eligible for Medicare or health insurance rebates.
